CANON Slade's under-18s football team signed off playing together in style by reaching the last eight of the ESFA National Cup.

The Bolton boys, who have represented the school with commitment and quality up and down the country over the years, lost their final match 2-1 to Altrincham Grammar.

For the Year 13 pupils in the team the game marked an emotional farewell to football at the Bradshaw school.

To reach the quarter-final of such a challenging national competition, in which more than 500 teams enter at the under-18s age group, is a great achievement.

Along the way the squad consisting of Year 13s Ryan Hamer, Andrew Bargh, captain Jamie Welsby, Toby Morgan, Ben Cameron, Sam Rigby, Alex Coulston, Mikey Price, Samson Juhasz, Year 12s Frank Anuniri, Matt Bradford, Matt Bowers and Year 11s Ethan Haynes, George Mikolajewski and Ben Quigley beat St Bede's College, Everton Free School, Cardinal Heenan Sports College, Sacred Heart Catholic College and Wickersley Sports College.
