BOLTON archer Eddie Marsden proved himself the surest of shots when he won gold at back-to-back tournaments.

He was part of a four-man team from the Chorley Bowmen club who won the annual Wigan and Orrell competition.

The Heaton man followed up a week later by winning the Cheshire County Bowmen tournament, once again with three team-mates from Chorley Bowmen.

The recurve category team, which also consisted of Dave Ball, Neil Seddon and Jack Grogan, won the Wigan and Orrell event for the third year running at Bamber Bridge.

With Lorraine Burrow replacing Seddon the following week due to a rule that at least one junior or female must be part of the team at the Cheshire County tournament, Chorley dominated the competition at Upton Leisure Centre near Chester.

The archery round in the latter competition was a ‘Portsmouth’, which consists of shooting a total of 60 arrows in groups of three, at a target placed 20 yards away.

Due to the large amount of archers in the competition, the tournament had to be held in three sections over the day, with Marsden's team entered in the final afternoon session.

The Chorley team shot strongly and they quickly got to the top of the leader board where they remained.
