BOLTON boxers Abdul Khan and Ali Akbar Javid have made it through to the pre quarter-final stages of the English and Junior Cadet Championships after claiming Greater Manchester titles last weekend.
The pair, who both train at Bury Amateur Boxing Club under Amir Khan's former coach Mick Jelley, saw off tough opposition via split decisions to win their regional finals at the 147 Club in Walkden on Sunday.
Khan, aged 15, of Thorpe Street, won the 48k cadet title following a tight contest against Patrick Hewitt, of Leigh ABC.
Akbar Javid, also 15, of Harrington Road, claimed victory in the 57k division with his win against Mohammed Sulliman Malik, of Sandigate ABC.
It was his second fight of the weekend after stopping Harvey Ashworth, of Littleborough ABC, in the first round of their semi-final last Friday.
Both boxers now progress to pre quarter-finals of the national championships at Birtley on Sunday.
