RAMSBOTTOM Town A finished second in the Premier Division after a 23-10 victory over last year’s champions Flixton Cricket Club A, who had been second all season.

Maximum nine points came from Richard Lightowler and Michael Moir.

After struggling throughout the campaign, Coburg A finished bottom of the table after last season’s promotion from Division One.

Their final game of the season ended in an 18-15 defeat to Little Lever A for whom Graham Jeffries and Ron Durose both won nine.

Sat one place above Coburg A are Heaton Cricket Club A, who were also promoted from Division One last season.

They still have one game left but are unable to move out of second bottom spot.

Burning Desire clinched the Division One title when they eased past Farnworth SC A 27-4 with all their players recording maximum points.

Acre Bottom finished runners-up after a 22-12 win against their own inter-club Ramsbottom Town B despite a resisting nine from David Kay.

At the foot of Division One are last year’s promoted Meadow Ben A. This was their first year at this level but look set for a swift return to Division Two, although a comeback is likely to be on the cards next season.

Just above them are Hilton C, who look likely to suffer the same fate. They tied 17-17 with Coburg B helped by a nine from Stephen Hunt.

Division Two’s Hilton D were relegated into the division last year and after a bit of a shaky start they have been leaders for the majority of the campaign.

Last week they just lost out to Heaton Cricket Club B – their rivals in second place – helped by a nine from David Hall. This did not affect their relative positions with both teams well ahead of the pack.

At the bottom, Top Spinners – who narrowly avoided relegation last year – lost 17-15 to BRASS B despite a resisting nine from stand-in Leon Smethurst.

They have struggled all season, often with only a two-man team, and will be glad to see the back of this season.

Just above them and well below the rest on points, are last year’s promoted Boyzone who lost 19-14 to Heaton Cricket Club C.

In Division Three, Bolton Table Tennis Club B are runaway winners followed by St Paul’s Peel who cannot be caught.

At the other end of the table, Ramsbottom C are unlikely to move off the bottom, and above them Walkden Methodists have had an unusually rough year.

They lost 18-17 to Meadow Ben C despite a resisting nine from Carl Bennett.

In Division Four, second-placed Meadow Hill A went into their match against leaders, juniors Hilton I, with an air of optimism, having been the only team to have beaten them this season.

With only seven points separating the two it was possible for Meadow Hill to catch them but Hilton earned a 22-19 victory with top of the averages Steven Gao earning a maximum nine points.

At the bottom of the table are Meadow Hill B with Ladybridge C just above them.

With both sides struggling throughout the season, they can both be thankful there is no division into which they can be relegated.

The Individual Divisional Championships take place this week at the Hilton Centre with one day allocated to each division.
