BOLTON pool player Will Caldwell has a busy weekend of individual and team action ahead.

The 26-year-old, who is an account manager at Bolton-based Southerns Office Interiors, travelled to Great Yarmouth on Thursday to compete in the World Championship qualifiers before turning his attention to the English Pool Association inter-league finals with his Atherton side.

Caldwell lost 5-1 to Carl Caney in his worlds qualifier but is upbeat about the chances for Atherton's team, who are backed by Southerns, this weekend.

He said: "Atherton has been drawn in a tough group at the inter-league finals, which includes last year’s winners, Reigate, but we’re very focused on progressing to the knockout stages.

"It’s our fourth year together as a group and, on a personal and team level, I’m delighted to have the support of Southerns.

"There are going to be some great matches to look forward to and we can’t wait to get going.

"I grew up playing a lot of pool with my dad, who plays for the local team in Westhoughton.

"He never let me win so I had to practice long and hard to beat him.

"It’s going to be a fantastic experience to go up against some of the very best players around and, hopefully, I’ll come out on top."

The Atherton team is made up of Will Caldwell, Danny Hunt (captain), Zac Leonard, Greg Pearson, Dennis Ormrod, Jimmy Johnston, Russ Tabern, Brian Jenkins, Rob Lennox, Gavin Pearson and John Worsley.

As well as Frames Reigate, they will face Central Cornwall Elite and Stowmarket in their group in the tournament which starts today.
