SIX Blue Vests completed the Cake Fell Race – a 10-miler with 1,700 feet of ascent – hosted by Saddleworth Runners.

The team prize was won, with Tommy Harrison edged off the podium and several age-group second places among the 281-strong field.

Elsewhere, Dean Johnson completed the Horwich Triathlon in 2:17:07.8 for 81st – 25 minutes quicker than last year.

For the juniors, the opening fixture of the Youth Development League Upper for u17s and u20s in the Northern West One Division saw gusting winds affect competitive times and distances.

Hosts Wigan topped the table, with Bolton lying in fourth out of seven positions.

Previously, the YDL Lower saw Bolton’s u13s and u15s travel the short distance to Bury for what promises to be a competitive Northern West Two Division.

Team manager Paul Rossington, who has a third promotion on his mind following last year’s battles, was pleased with the team performance and parents’ willingness to help for various matchday roles.

Though some results are still being processed, it is expected the Blue Vests will be occupying one of the top two spots.
