TWO Burnden teams won their categories in the Terry Nortley Relays on Bank Holiday Monday.

The ‘110 Percent’ quartet of Lee White (12mins 37secs), Paula Pilling (13:44), Marcus Taylor (12:48) and Kirsty White (13:34) won the mixed vet team category and finished ninth team overall.

The ‘Ladies 1st’ comprising of Katy Thompson (15:11), Shirley Staveley (14:49), Anne Ferguson (15:10) and Lesley Fisher (14:29) won the female vet team prize.

A total of 39 Burnden runners took part making up 10 teams with one runner doing two legs.

The ‘Young@Heart’ team of Rob Short (11:49), Mark Jackson (12:26), Colin Rigby (12:10) and Andrew Henderson (12:15) finished as third team overall.

Closer to home, four members tackled the Horwich Triathlon, involving a 500m pool swim, a 40K bike ride and a tough final run up to Rivington Pike and back.

Nick Taylor was quickest, completing the swim in 9.40, took 1:22:41 on the bike and finished off with a run of 43:45 for a total of 2:21:04.

Matt Barker came out of the pool in 13:37, then completed the bike ride in 1:26:30 and the run in 46:44 for a total of 2:32:01.

Tim Taylor did the swim in 13:07 and his bike time of 1:32:46, coupled with 52:17 for the run, gave him a total of 2:41:39.

Trevor Fishwick completed the event in 3:10:23. The swim section was completed in 17:23, followed by 1:42:51 for the bike and 1:03:33 for the run.

Meanwhile, Neil Critchley travelled to Preston for the inaugural Avenham Park 5K race and finished in a time of 24:12.
