BURNDEN Road Runners athletes Liz McLellan and Isaline Pollitt had a successful weekend competing in the ETU European Duathlon Championships in Soria, Spain.
McLellan put in a fantastic performance to claim silver in the sprint event’s 45-49 age group with runs of 21mins 18secs and 11:07 sandwiching a bike time of 44:38 for a total of 1:20:08.
She described stepping on the podium draped in the Union flag to receive her medal as the “proudest moment of my life”.
Pollitt was sixth in the standard 50-54 age group with a 49:55 run followed by 1:46:41 on the bike – a personal best and at one point she hit more than 46mph on a downhill section of the route – and 27:30 for the second run to record a total of 3:07:46.
