BURNDEN’S women left Haigh Hall in Wigan with a trio of age-group victories in the four-mile Central Lancs Grand Prix event.

Paula Pilling was first female vet and third female finisher overall in 28mins 32secs, Izzy Pollitt was first F50 with a time of 29:59 and Lyndsay Darbyshire headed the F45 group on 31:00.

Sarah Watton’s time of 30:19 allowed her, Pilling and Pollitt to claim second place in the team rankings.

Other age group performances of note included Anne Ferguson claiming second F55 in 31:42, Jane Forrest third F55 in 34:05 and Linda Byrne third F40 with her time of 34:30.

Rob Short finished 15th overall in 25:26 to lead the club’s representation home. Lee White was next, his time of 26:37 earning him fourth place in the V40 group.

Marcus Taylor was third V45 in 27:25, followed by Ed Ashton fourth V50 in 27:33, Keith Thomas second V55 27:54 and Don Nichol third V60 on 32:35.

Rob, Lee, Marcus and Paul put the club fourth in the men’s team standings.

Four Burnden members travelled to the Lake District for the Montane 13 Trail Race at Howgills. Nick Taylor was the first of the quartet to finish, posting a time of 2:31:38. Alec Cottrill completed the tough course in 3:03:21, followed by Sally Cottrill in 3:34:55 and Maria Parkinson in 4:14:17.

Dawn Evans headed to Yorkshire for the Malhamdale Trail Challenge, a tough nine-mile course which tests both fell runners and walkers along a route which takes in sections of the Pennine Way and Janet's Foss – which has been voted one of the Top 10 Secret Trails of The National Trust. Evans completed the challenge in 2:36:26.

Paul Johnson focused on a trip to Leyland for a crack at the Worden Park 10K, a scenic two-lap course, and finished in a time of 48:19.
