BURNDEN returned from the British Masters Road Relays at Sutton Coldfield with a silver medal for the ladies’ W55 team.

Anne Ferguson got them off to a flyer with 21mins 38secs over the first three-mile leg with Jane Forrest’s 22:57 and Lesley Fisher’s 21:02 giving them a total time of 1:05:37 and second place.

Fisher won bronze in the W55 category, recording the third fastest W55 time for a leg.

The fastest time by a Burnden team on the day was recorded by the M55 trio of Tony Wall (20:06), Stewart Jones (21:31) and Keith Thomas (18:58), whose combined time was 1:00:35.

The three-strong ladies W45 combo of Lyndsay Darbyshire, Shirley Staveley and Gwen Kinloch was just a little outside that time with 1:02:57.

Darbyshire posted a time of 20:16, backed by Staveley’s 21:28 and Kinloch’s 21:13.

The six-man M35 team recorded some stunning legs, finishing with a combined time of 1:56:19. Paul Duke (18:16) and Andrew Henderson (18:15) could only be separated by a second as they laid down a great opening two legs. Steven Bate (21:03) and Chris Greenall (22:09) were next before Colin Rigby became the only member to come in under 18 minutes with a stunning leg of 17:48. Ed Ashton completed a fine team effort with a time of 18:48.

The W35 team of Mumtaz Patel, Paula Pilling, Denise Hodgkinson and Susan Pickering delivered a combined time of 1:37:51. Mumtaz recorded 21:54 for the first leg, followed by 19:44 from Pilling, then 25:47 from Hodgkinson and Pickering's 30:26.

Due to injury and illness forcing late withdrawals, there were two incomplete teams. Andy Warburton (23:59) and Tony Foster (27:45) paired up, as did Fiona Ashton (26:32) and Louise Wall (30:14).

Five Road Runners travelled to Ambleside to tackle the Brathay Windermere Marathon and join endurance runners who were completing the last of their 10 in 10 days challenge around the lake.

Marcus Taylor conquered the tough, seriously undulating course in a great time of 3:32:09, ahead of Jackie Oakes who cruised home in 4:30:57. Iain Conner crossed the line in 5:23:10. Tracy Cameron put in a fantastic effort having chosen this tough event as her first marathon, coming home in 6:14:16 with Dawn Evans registering a similarly gutsy performance to make it back to Ambleside in 6:59:39.

The Chester Half Marathon attracted three members. David Broadhurst was first to finish in 1:51:28, followed by Jenna Leeks, who posted an impressive 2:03:32 in her first attempt at the distance. Bobla Brookes crossed the line in 2:24:04.

Matt Barker’s Ironman training schedule took in the Standard Distance Triathlon at Southport. He completed the 1500m swim in the resort’s marine lake in 35:39, the 40km bike ride in 1:21:54 and the 10K run in 54:25 for a total time of 3:00:37.

Phil Holden and Karen Taylor took on the sprint distance. Holden posted a time of 1:32:58, made up of 21:20 for the 750m swim, 39:07 for the 20km bike and 24:55 for the 5K run. Taylor was eighth F55 in 1:43:21. She completed the swim in 24:47, the bike in 43:28 and the run in 26:30.

Steve Riddle made his return to running as part of his attempt at the North West Sprint Triathlon at Nantwich.

He emerged in 106th place overall with 8:22 for the 500m swim, 40:31 for the 20km bike ride and 23:57 for the 5K run giving him a total of 1:18:10.

Tim Taylor travelled half way round the world and finished the Sydney Half Marathon in a time of 1:48:49.
