GARETH Hastie will be going for a sixth Bolton Golf Championship title on Thursday evening but will be up against home favourite and defending champion Danny Hunt.

Hastie and Jack Wiggins went all the way to the 18th hole in last night's semi-finals before Hastie won a thrilling match one up, while Hunt beat Bowker 4&2.

If Hastie wins the final at Great Lever and Farnworth Golf Club (5.15pm start), he will go second on the all-time winners’ list.

In Wednesday night's semi-final Hastie won the first hole before Wiggins replied with a birdie on the second then holed his second shot on the third for an eagle two.

Bolton Golf Club player Hastie won the fifth, seventh and eighth with pars to lead two up before Wiggins birdied the ninth and remained one down at the turn.

Hastie went two up again with a birdie at the 10th, and a par at 14th put him three up with four holes to play.

Wiggins, in his first semi-final, was not giving up easily and won the 15th and 16th to be just one hole behind with two holes left. The 17th was halved in pars and so to the par three 18th where Wiggins missed the green long and left and managed to get up and down for a par.

Hastie found the green in regulation but raced his first put some three feet past and holed out to win the match one up.

The second semi-final saw a close match on the front nine where Hunt birdied the third and ninth and a birdie from Bowker on the fourth gave Hunt a one hole lead after nine. Hunt then played a great second shot to the par five 10th to set up an eagle and a birdie on the 11th put the home player three up.

But a turnaround from Bowker saw him win the next two holes to go from three down to just one down. Unfortunately a wayward drive on the next put Bowker back under pressure and then three putted the par three 15th to go dormie three down.

Bowker then hit his tee shot out of bounds on the 16th and conceded the match 4&2 against Hunt.

If Hastie wins tonight’s final at Great Lever & Farnworth, 5.15pm start, he will pass Howard Broadbent in sole second place in the all-time winners’ list with six titles.

They will still be well behind the leader – the legendary Jack Taylor whose 10 titles many believe is unlikely to ever be surpassed.
