BURNDEN had three winners at the Joan Rhodes and Fred Norris Memorial 5K race at Radcliffe.

Lyndsay Darbyshire was first F50 in 21mins 59secs and Lucille Corrigan first F45 in 23:42. Mel Walker won the M70 prize in 25:15.

Rob Short was first home as Burnden turned out in force with 43 members competing.

Short was 17th overall in a time of 18:35. Steve Nolan was next, 21st overall and second M55 just four seconds behind in 18:39.

Paul Duke was next in 18:57 which earned him third M40. Marcus Chester made it four members inside 20 minutes with a time of 19:15.

Paula Pilling was the first female member to finish and third female finisher overall, second F40 in 20:55.

Sarah Watton was second senior female in 21:43, Shirley Staveley second F50 in 23:13 and Katy Thompson second F45 in 24:08.

Don Nichol was third M60 in 23:03, while Linda Haines was third F55 in a time of 28:46.

Vicki Hamer was fourth senior female and Chris Greenall fourth M45 with identical times of 22:17. Jackie Oakes was fourth F40 in 23:58, Don Taylor was fourth M65 in 24:47, David Aulton fourth M60 in 25:02 and Nia Bell fourth F55 in 28:42.

Twenty-eight members decamped to Leeds for the Endure 24 ultra-running event, with four teams of five and one team of eight competing over the five-mile course for 24 hours in a relay format.

The club’s Small Team (men) of Colin Rigby, Marcus Taylor, Mark Jackson, Lee White and Colin Faulds finished second in their category, completing 39 laps.

The leading Small Team (mixed) team of Gareth Doherty, Kirsty White, Tony Wall, Jane Forrest and Steve Bate registered 36 laps to take third place in their category.

In all, members completed 145 laps, a distance of 725 miles over the 24 hours.

The club had four teams taking part in the Witton Team Relays in Blackburn.

Steve Nolan, Marcus Taylor and Paul Duke finished 23rd overall with a total time of 53:44.

Don Nichol, Steve Bate and Keith Thomas combined for a time of 1:00:30, while Richard Blake, Mike Caine and Adrian Ashburn returned a time of 1:05:23.

Gayle Gerrard, Nick Haworth and Stuart Waldram posted a time of 1:14:09.

Keith Thomas and Mark Butler tackled the 5.2 miles of the second race in the four-race Harrock Hill series in Bispham. Thomas was 31st overall and second M60 in 40:48, with Butler crossing the line in 54:26.

Denise Hodgkinson completed the Southport Half Marathon in 2:08:48.
