PARALYMPIC champion and world record holder Ellie Robinson did her bit to inspire the next generation of swimmers by holding a masterclass at Horwich Leisure Centre.

The 15-year-old, who won 50m butterfly gold and 100m freestyle bronze at the 2016 Rio Games, held a clinic at the pool for young members of the Horwich swimming club.

Liz Trist, of Horwich Leisure Centre Association Swimming Club, said: "The clinic focussed on starts and turns and some butterfly technique.

"A gym session followed, when Ellie took our members through some exercises she uses to strengthen her core.

"The afternoon was rounded off by a short slideshow about Ellie and her preparation and racing in Rio, then she signed hats, kickboards and answered questions from the swimmers.

"It was open to all our club swimmers – the youngest who attended was seven and the oldest 17.

"The buzz afterwards from our swimmers was incredible.

"They really appreciated her time and expertise and every single swimmer took something positive away from the afternoon."

Ellie's visit was one of the last major events to be held at the pool before a new centre is opened adjacent to the current site.

Work is well underway on the new leisure centre, which should be open in the next few months.

Liz is in the process of collating pictures and stories from previous club members to create a nostalgic exhibition at the new site.
