THE seventh round of the Central Lancashire Grand Prix hosted by Leigh brought four age-category wins for Harriers at the Pennington Flash 5M.

Tommy Harrison led the Blue Vests with a podium spot and remains on course for the senior men’s title.

However, with only seven counters in the squad, the teams’ rankings in the series have plummeted.

BUH&AC times: 2 Tommy Harrison 28mins 41secs, 7 Simon Dally 30:46 (M45 1st), 14 Paul Mills 31:59 (M50 1st), 16 Dominic Gavin 32:21, 45 Ken Fowler 35:45 (M60 1st), 57 David Chrystal 36:38, 102 Rachel Bailey 39:48 (FU20 1st).

Paul Mills’ performance showed he is making up for lost time having joined BUH&AC after the 2015 Bolton 10K.

A long injury lay-off put paid to almost 12 months of racing, but 2017 has seen him return with a bang.

His entry to the Pendle and Burnley Grand Prix, similar in format to the CLGP where the best nine races of 14 count but with a greater emphasis on fell terrain, saw him compete in more than 20 races and finish 14th overall in the series.

He went even better in the final race – the Boulsworth Moor FR – when he wrapped up the MV50 category in hot conditions.

A similar fate awaits if he completes two of the remaining three CLGP races and capturing two lengthy series titles in one season would be a fantastic achievement.

Elsewhere, four Blue Vests competed in the BMC Tipton track event in the West Midlands.

In the 1500m, Jonny Kay won the A race in 3:52.8 – a personal best by three seconds – kicking clear at the bell with a 58s last lap.

In the same race, Karl Darcy clocked 4:05.0 for a PB by seven seconds.

In the 800m, Katie Oakley ran a PB of 2:20.8 in the same D race as Sarah McDonald, the 1500m semi-finalist at the recent World Championships.

In the open 400m, Joshua Sabery also ran a good time, clocking 55.5s.

Considering he only started running seriously in the last year and only broke the minute barrier for the first time this summer, his improvement is evident.
