BURNDEN took three age-group prizes at the Pennington Flash 5-Mile race, part of the Central Lancs Grand Prix series.

Mark Jackson was first V35 in 33mins 17secs, with Lyndsay Darbyshire first F50 in 36:48 and Gwen Kinloch first F55 in 36:50.

The club had three runners in the top four of the F55 category. Elaine Roper was second in 43:45 and Jane Forrest fourth in 43:54.

As well as Jackson, Burnden also had three members in the first 25 finishers. Mark Swannell was 11th overall and fourth V40 in 31:16, Lee White 19th overall and third V45 in 32:32 and Paul Duke was 22nd in 32:56.

Martyn Pollitt was second V55 in 34:36 and Isaline Pollitt third F50 in 38:42.

The fourth and final race in the Harrock Hill series saw Shirley Staveley claim first L50 in 48:45.

George Butler, Robert Short and Paul Duke finished in the top 20.

Butler was 15th overall in 38:22 with Short 19th in a time of 39:29, two seconds ahead of Duke who was fourth V40 in 20th place with 39:31.

Anne Ferguson was third L55 in 46:38.

Five members were on triathlon duty at Edge Hill University for the West Lancs Triathlon.

A 400m pool swim is followed by an 18.5km cycle route and a 5km run around the campus to give a good test in all disciplines.

Butler was 19th overall in a terrific time of 1:01:27, taking 5:49 for the swim, 33:43 on the bike and then 19:25 for the run to finish off.

Liz McLellan was 11th female finisher and third F40 with a total time of 1:11:48. She was out of the pool in 10:30 before completing the bike course in 37:20. Her run of 19:52 made her the second fastest female runner, only six seconds away from being the fastest.

Alec Cottrill completed his first triathlon in 1:29:13. He finished the swim in 12:34, then followed it up with 42:41 and 27:04 for the run.

Gillian McGowan’s time of 1:57:52 began with a time of 12:22 for the swim, then 1:02:34 on the bike before a run time of 32:52.

Dawn Evans completed the swim in 17:10 and took 1:08:05 on the bike before a run time of 30:46 gave her a total of 2:03:54.
