IN Section A of the Bolton Badminton League hosts Oakgate BC fell to a 13-5 defeat to Forrest A at Smithills Sports Centre, the scoreline not reflecting the balance of play.

The first pair of games was shared as Forrest’s Paula Wright and Chris Latham claimed the first 21-12 and Georgina Haigh and Josh Young won the second by the same score.

Forrest’s Christine Seddon and Chris Mealor then won both games 21-8, 21-13, against Amanda Mason and Richard Jakeman.

In two close games Forrest’s Carolyn Wood and Brad Walton held their nerve for a 21-19, 22-20 win against Laura Woodburn and Simon Froude.

When the first couples met they shared their games, Forrest’s Seddon and Mealor taking the first 21-16, and Haigh and Young winning the second 21-18.

Forrest’s Wright and Latham won their games when the second couples met, beating Mason and Jakeman 22-20, 21-14.

In the level doubles the points were shared between Wood and Seddon and Woodburn and Haigh, with Walton and Mealor also sharing the spoils with Froude and Young.

Forrest’s Wood and Wright had a 21-13, 21-12 victory over Woodburn and Mason.

The final pair of men’s games between Froude and Jakeman and Walton and Latham were shared to make the final score 13-5, the win taking Forrest to top spot in the early stages of the season.
