LOSTOCK AC's Josie Greenhalgh secured an impressive age-group victory in an arduous two-day mountain marathon last weekend.

Competing as an individual in the long score category of the ROC Mountain Marathon, Greenhalgh was the first-placed female veteran.

Setting off early on Saturday morning after only having just been given the route and overnight camp location, Greenhalgh and her fellow competitors had to carry all their own equipment, food and spare clothing to survive the weekend in the south western Lake District.

Competing as an individual rather than in a team of two meant Greenhalgh had no one to share the equipment load with or for support, but this did not stop her completing the 13-hour course as leading age-group female.

Also in the Lake District, Jack Bibby continued to impress in his debut season at the Kendal Sprint Triathlon.

Bibby posted a swim time of 7mins 41secs, a bike sit of 40:08 and a run time of 22:40, to record an overall time of 1:13:53 to finish 68th out of a strong field of 281 and was 20th in his age group.

Paul Speed faced an equally strong field at the Holcombe Mountain Trial Duathlon and, despite a recurring injury that severely hampered his second run split, posted a credible time of 3:22:17 and was 43rd overall.

In parkrun, Tony Marlow continued his recovery from injury with an impressive age-group victory, and 12th place overall, at Cuerden Valley, while Andy Laycock posted a time of 23:39 at Bolton to finish 43rd overall.
