BURNDEN’S ladies took over the Swinton 5.25-mile race, claiming four age-group wins and taking home the team prize.

Paula Pilling was the first to finish, first L40 in 35mins 33secs and she was followed by Gwen Kinloch, who took the L55 category in 36:18, Isaline Pollitt, who finished first L50 in 37:45, and Katy Thompson, first L45 in 40:44.

The club’s men competed well in a strong field, with five members inside the first 21 finishers.

Mark Swannell was the fastest Burndener, finishing 11th overall with a time of 31:01.

He was closely followed by Steve Nolan, 12th overall and first V55 in 31:15, and Colin Rigby, 13th overall and second V45 in 31:26.

Together these three came second in the team standings. Paul Duke and Rob Short battled it out to the finish with Duke, 20th in 32:13, just edging out Short, 21st with 32:16.

Martyn Pollitt was second V55 with his time of 34:13, Lee White was third V45 in 32:24 and Paul Christie third V60 in 40:21.

Anne Ferguson was second L55 in a time of 39:06 and Sheila Christie third L50 45:30.

The third leg of the four-race Barrow Bridge 5K series attracted 28 members with Mark Jackson the first to finish, second V35 in 19:39.

Pilling was the first female Burnden member to cross the line, winning the F40 prize in 20:20.

There were four other age-group victories – Isaline Pollitt was first F50 in 21:17, Tony Wall first V60 in 21:45, Jackie Oakes first F45 in 22:10 and Phil Glassbrook first V70 in 25:51.

Lucille Corrigan was second F45 in 23:14, while Gayle Gerrard was the second fastest F40 runner with a time of 24:40, followed by Sally Cottrill second F50 in 27:39 and Anthony Foster second V70 in 32:04.

Jeff Pendlebury was third V55 25:12, Denise Hodgkinson third F45 in 27:11, Rita Ledwards third F55 in 28:31 and Louise Wall third F50 in 29:27.

Sarah Sutcliffe and Dawn Evans travelled the farthest at the weekend to compete, heading to Scotland for the iconic Loch Ness Marathon, finishing at Inverness.

Sutcliffe finished the tough course in 4:05:03, with Evans crossing the finish line in 5:28:39.

Mel Walker was first V70 in the Mortimer 10k in Reading with a time of 50:42.

Debra Hennessey, Gillian McGowan and Johnny McGowan made the shorter trip to Preston for the Audi Run Preston 10k. Hennessey finished in 1:00:04, with Johnny next in 1:21:03 and Gillian posting 1:21:33.
