HORWICH juniors continued to shine this week with more cross-country success at Leigh Sports Village.

After a fine performance in the thick mud at Marls Pits a week earlier, they took part in the Mid Lancs Cross Country League event on a flatter course.

Star turn was Charlotte Wilkinson who had a good second place in the under-11s girls’ race, made up of 74 runners. Charlotte finished just 11 seconds behind Georgia Bell, of Barrow and Furness, and one second ahead of Hannah Culshaw, from Wigan Harriers.

In the u13s girls’ race, Lucy Dixon was eighth out of 70 runners in a competitive race in which the top 10 all finished within 27 seconds of each other.

For the seniors, it was Janet Rashleigh who impressed at Leigh with a fine 13th place overall and a clear F55 category win in a race run by 138 women.

Indoors, the latest Sportshall event at Sportcity in Manchester saw a large group of young Harriers compete under the watchful eye of coach Gemma Stokes.

The u11s boys finished joint second alongside Sale, both behind Stockport.

It was the same top three in the u11s girls' section, but this time Sale pipped Horwich to second place despite a storming second place in the 4x2 lap relay race.

The results included an individual event win for Andreassen and two wins for Wegrzyn.

However, it was the team spirit that shone through with every Horwich boy and girl being cheered to the rafters.

Not surprisingly, coach Stokes was delighted with the squad’s efforts.

The Langdale Christmas Pudding race is not just a festive fun outing, as Gareth Booth showed when taking third place out of a field of more than 600 runners. He was M40 category winner too.

In parkrun, Michael Chadderton scored his first ever first place at a chilly Leverhulme Park and at the same venue Isabella Merritt was second female home.

At Worsley Woods, it was a father-and-son duel with Lucas Milliken finishing in second place ahead of dad Dave in fourth, separated by only 23 seconds.

But in the age-graded results the positions were reversed with Dave achieving 79.57 per cent and Lucas 79.23 per cent.

At Queens Park junior parkrun, Aleks Clayden was second and just eight seconds off a personal best.
