BOLTON Mets are inviting anyone wishing to give rugby league a try to get in touch with them.

One of only two adult teams in the town, the Mets are starting pre-season training on Thursday.

They are looking to recruit new players for the forthcoming season and are encouraging prospective players to go along to training to see if they enjoy the game and the club.

Mets have been in existence for just over 20 years and play in the North West League.

Training takes place at Essa Academy, Morris Green Lane, Bolton between 8pm and 10pm and will consist of fitness work and soft skills such as ball handling, footwork and moves.

Sessions are free and people wishing to go along should take trainers and a water bottle.

Club chairman Stuart Cooke said: "Even if you have never played rugby league before but want to give it a go, you are more than welcome to come down, introduce yourself and have a run around.

"Even though we welcome complete beginners into the fold, we are also looking for experienced players to join the club to help us strengthen the squad.

"We have a group of lads here with great potential but who need guidance from experienced players to help them grow and develop.

"Some positions which we are looking to improve in are key areas like full-back, half-back and hooker, although we would be more than happy to see other positions challenged for.

"The more players we have wanting to play on a Saturday afternoon means the harder everyone needs to work on the training nights.

"The club has great ambition to succeed, right the way down from the chairman to the head coach and players, but we need input from others to help us fulfil our potential.

"If you want to join a well-organised, friendly, hugely-talented club then please get in touch. Whether you want to be a Bolton Mets player, coach, committee member or matchday volunteer, there are positions available that are waiting to be filled.
