THIS week’s delve into The Bolton News picture archives has unearthed a photograph of the Bolton Schoolboys team from March 1984.

The caption accompanying the old snap says it was taken before their English Cup semi-final against Sheffield Boys at Burnden Park that month.

Did you play for the team or do you recognise anyone in the line-up?

Do you have any memories of that game or how the team fared that year?

THE second picture this week was first published on Thursday, December 28 and features a Mount St Joseph’s School football team from April 1984 which provoked a good response from readers supplying information.

Patrick Moran said: "This was from Mount St Josephs on Hawthorn Road, Bolton in the gym.

"I was top right in the picture. It was a good time and remember the match quite well.

"In the final Billy Killeen lobbed the ball over onto a nearby building and the match stopped while we got a replacement ball but it was worth it.

"Our PE teacher was Mr Mayor, who coached us at the time to get us to the final and he had to lend me a pair of boots on the day as I had busted mine and also lost some studs in them previously.

"He would be screaming at us in defence to get the ball up the field and was pretty hoarse by the end of matches.

"We were around 14 years of age at the time and we all left in 1985.

"Some really good players and happy memories.

"Team names, back from left, are: Simon Gaysford, Damian Tierney, Chris Shaw, Pete Mannion, Chris Bell, Billy Killeen, me; front, Paul Brown, Nicolas Brocklehurst, Paul Griffin, Mark Cooper, Shaun Eatough and Mark Dean."

John Knowles added: "The photo brought back good memories of the team's success.

"This was particularly poignant as it was the first cohort of boys at MSJ (previously an all-girls school).

"I was in the first year at the time and we were bussed up to watch the final at Aerospace.

"The names I remember are back, second from left, Damien Tierney, third Chris Shaw, fourth Peter Mannion and sixth Billy Killeen and front row, first Paul Brown, second Nick Brocklehurst, third Paul Griffin, fourth Mark Bolton, fifth Damien Sheen and sixth Mark Dean.

"I know the faces of the others but can't remember their names.

"That year our first year won the Bolton town trophy (actually joint winners 3-3 I think against St James)."

Meanwhile, Graham Mayor named some of the same names and said: "Not on the picture for some reason, though played in that team, were Jonathan Senior and Christopher Parkinson."
