PREMIER Division high-fliers showed their superiority over lower teams when the second half of the Bolton Table Tennis League season got under way with the return fixtures.

And in the clash of the week, third-placed Flixton Cricket Club got an unusual heavy beating, 25-4, at the hands of leaders Glodwick who had nine-point winners in the form of Amirul Hussain and Meng Cheng, making his reappearance in the team.

It was a bad week for Flixton as their B team lost 26-7 to second-placed Ramsbottom Cricket Club A whose Mark Ramsbottom and Andrew Jackson both scored nine.

Fourth-placed Ramsbottom Town B beat Nomads 24-7 with nines from Brian Clements and Ryan Choong, and fifth-placed Radcliffe Cricket Club produced the same winning scoreline against bottom side Burning Desire with nines from Robert Hall and Brian Hallsworth.

There were more equal confrontations further down the table as Wharton A defeated Ladybridge A 24-16, with nines from Barry Elliott and Jacob Reilly-Cooper, and Little Lever Cricket Club A beat Hilton A 20-14 helped by a nine from Graham Jeffries.

In Division One, leaders Ramsbottom Town C were edged out 18-17 by third-placed Hilton B.

Second-placed Coburg faced Farnworth SC A in a match that did not take place in the first half of the season with that result determined by the committee.

This time Coburg won 21-14 assisted by a nine from Dave Jones

Hilton D, a team making a good impression in their first year in Division One and in fourth place, beat fifth-placed Little Lever Cricket Club B 24-12.

Meadow Ben A beat bottom team Hilton E 24-8 with a nine from John Scowcroft, while Heaton Cricket Club A overcame second-bottom Hilton C 18-14 with nines from David Hall and Frank Green.

Ramsbottom Town D beat Wingates 22-14 helped by a nine from Martin Ormsby.

Division Two’s Bolton TTC A, who are clear at the top, were given a tough game by second-bottom Farnworth SC B before running out 20-17 winners.

Second-placed St Paul’s Peel had an easier ride against Top spinners, winning 24-8 with the customary nine from Lee Devenport, as did third-placed Polonia Club A against mid-table Brass Zone in a 27-4 hammering.

Fourth-placed Meadow Ben B beat their bottom-placed C team 22-14 assisted by nine points from Mike Heaton.

Mid-table encounters saw Farnworth SC C beat Ladybridge B 18-13 with nines from Christopher Lord and Ben Wyatt.

Bolton TTC B edged out Heaton Cricket Club B 21-16 with nines from Sam Greenhalgh and Peter McCormick.

In Division Four, leaders Walkden Methodist won 22-17 at fourth-placed Meadow Hill A in which man-of-the-match Richard Whittleworth scored nine.

Second-placed Hilton F beat their G team 22-8 with nines from Jeff Saunders and Malcolm Wilcock.

Third-placed juniors Hilton H could only beat the steadily-improving Albany 19-18 with Hilton’s Nabeel Malji on nine.

In an inter-club derby mid-table Meadow Ben D beat bottom team Meadow Hill B 25-10 assisted by a nine from Neil Cowburn.

Polonia Club B had their third win of the season when they beat an Irlam Steel side who are just above them 20-15 despite a resisting nine from David Yates, and second-bottom Farnworth SC D just lost 18-16 to fifth-placed Ladybridge C.
