THE Bolton Badminton League resumed after the Christmas break and Forrest D hosted Westhoughton C in a Section B match which went to the wire.

Forrest’s Georgina King and James Wallen shared two close games, claiming the first 21-18, but Westhoughton pair Linda Redford and Alan Cooper held their nerve to take the second 24-22.

Westhoughton’s first couple, Danni Higman and Sam Duda, then won both games 21-18, 21-17, against Karen Holden and Shalin Patel.

When the third couples met, Clare Stopford and Pete Lambert won the first 21-14 and Lauren Muddiman and Adam Carney claimed the second 21-13.

In the clash of the first couples, Forrest’s King and Wallen beat Higman and Duda 21-16, 21-18.

Forrest’s Holden and Patel also claimed both games against Redford and Cooper when the second couples met, 21-19, 21-16 the scores.

Going into the level doubles Forrest were 6-4 ahead, but in the first pair of ladies’ games Westhoughton’s Muddiman and Higman won both games 21-14, 21-16 against Stopford and King, putting their team level.

The first pair of men’s games was shared. Westhoughton’s Carney and Duda won a nailbiting first game 24-22, and in an equally-close encounter Lambert and Wallen took the second 21-19. The second pair of ladies’ games was also shared. Muddiman and Redford won the first for Westhoughton 21-15, and Stopford and Holden held on to take the second 21-17.

With the match 8-8 it was everything to play for going into the final men’s games.

Lambert and Patel won a comfortable first game 21-11, and then dug in to take the final game 21-19, against Carney and Cooper, and achieve a 10-8 win for Forrest D.
