BOLTON boxer Jack Cullen will top the bill for the first time in Bolton later this month.

The 24-year-old has been given the showpiece slot on the bill at the Bolton Whites Hotel on February 24 after impressing in the build-up.

Middleweight Cullen will be looking to extend his perfect record of eight wins from eight fights as a professional against a yet-to-be-confirmed opponent.

It will be the biggest night of his fledgling career and he is sure to be backed by a big following from his home village of Little Lever where he has a large band of friends and supporters.

He said: “I’m absolutely buzzing to be top of the bill on a home show.

“It’s a good opportunity for me to take the next step and show what I can do.

“I’ve put a lot of effort into sparring and training with world-class people so I’m ready for this belt and to progress.”

Promoter Steve Wood said Cullen – nicknamed Little Lever Meat Cleaver – has got extra motivation by seeing another fighter get a chance to fight for the central area title instead of him.

“He’s getting an angry man,” Wood told VIP TV.

“He’ll fight for a challenge belt and I’ll let him top the bill.

“He’s flying now. He’s fought a lot of tough journeymen and he’s learned from those fights and from sparring top-quality guys, so he’s ready to push on now.”

Wood also believes people will see a side of Cullen’s ability he has not shown before.

“His power’s not really shown because he’s been fighting tough journeymen,” he said.

“I think once he starts fighting people who come and have a little go at him he will start getting stoppages.”

Tickets are available at £60 ringside and £35 standard and can be purchased by calling 07789 474635.

The New Inn at Little Lever are putting on a coach to take supporters to and from the fight.
