FREYA Johnson had a problem. She was too good.

The 13-year-old martial arts ace turned to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu after running out of viable opponents in wrestling.

She found similar problems in her new sport – until she was introduced to a new coach.

“The search was in vein as Freya's training partners either got hurt or refused to train with her,” said Freya’s mum Kila.

“We had nearly given up hope until someone recommended Kameron Atakuru at ASW Manchester."

Atakuru recommended Freya took part in two divisions at the recent King of the North Brazilian Jiu Jitsu competition, in both her own teenage category and the female adults competition.

Freya won both, beating a 28-year-old opponent 11-0 in the older age group and the European silver medallist 10-0 in the teenage event.

Winning convincingly is not unusual for Freya, having won back-to-back titles in the British Junior Wrestling Championships and English Open wrestling competitions in the past.

With a strong track record, the signs are the youngster will be able to continue her impressive progress, especially with new coach Atakuru in her corner.

“Freya feels she has found the perfect coach in Kameron Atakuru,” added Kila.

“She feels she has been taught more in five weeks than in the previous five years.”
