BOLTON men's first team are champions of the North West Division Four North title with four games to spare.

It was only a matter of time before they lifted the title after a stunning season which has seen them win all 17 of their league games before Saturday.

And they clinched it in style with a 5-0 drubbing of Leyland and Chorley at Harper Green.

Their impressive season has seen them score 90 goals and concede only 14.

Bolton have been too strong for their opponents this season with their fast-flowing style and accuracy of pass proving hard for their opponents to handle.

And so it proved again against Leyland, despite going into the game with five regular first-team players missing and coach McGovern having to come on as substitute.

The first goal was beautifully worked with Jon Woods before slotted home in the bottom corner.

Woods was responsible for the second with some sublime skill drawing a foul to win a penalty flick and Joel Reiss stepping up to coolly dispatch the ball into the top right corner.

McGovern came on off the bench for his first appearance of the season and scored when Rob Lord beat two men and delivered an inch-perfect reverse-stick cross which the coach converted into the bottom corner.

In the second half Woods won two more penalty flicks which first Damien Pearse then Reiss scored from.

Bolton ladies' second team kept their Greater Manchester League Division Two promotion hopes alive with a 2-1 home victory over Didsbury Northern's fourth team.

Bolton are sixth and Didsbury second but so tight is the division that there are only three points separating them with Bolton having three games in hand.

They went ahead from a short corner when Fiona Clarke scored on the rebound after Viv Lake's shot was kept out.

The home side's continued pressure paid off when Lake chipped the keeper after a run which had taken her down the left wing and along the back line.

Didsbury forced Bolton back in the second half but outstanding defending by Nat Boal and Imogen Hall kept them at bay until the visitors halved the arrears five minutes from time.
