BURNDEN’S Rob Short put in a stunning run in the Red Hot Toddy 10k race at Todmorden in West Yorkshire.

Short finished just two minutes behind the winner in fourth spot, in a time of 40mins 50secs, as Burnden claimed three places in the top 10 and five in the top 20.

Marcus Taylor was sixth overall and second M45 in 41:18, followed by Lee White – seventh overall and third M45 with 42:06.

Ed Ashton was 14th overall and first M50 in 43:24 with Mark Jackson 17th overall in 44:16.

The first female member to finish was Paula Pilling, second in the women’s race and first F40 with a time of 46:32.

Gwen Kinloch was third woman home and first F55 in 46:50, while Lyndsay Darbyshire also took her age group, first F50 in 50:13.

Anne Ferguson was third F55 in 50:25, Sheila Christie third F50 in 57:46 and Nadia Raza third F35 in 62:02.

Mark Butler was second M55 in 47:16.

Two members pushed themselves beyond the limit by tackling the 50-mile Chester Ultra.

Sarah Woodiwiss and Dawn Evans both put in awesome efforts, with Woodiwiss finishing 146th out of 226 finishers in 13:03:00 and Evans completing the course in 18:23:00.

Lorraine Halwood completed her 39th marathon by smashing the West Pennines Trail event starting and finishing in Sunnyhurst Woods, Darwen.

Halwood battled the elements and ended up covering a total of 31 miles for her time of 7:39:17.

Neil Critchley led four members home at the Howler 10k Trail run as part of the marathon weekend with a time of 1:20:59. Emma Walker was next in 1:23:55, followed by Louise Fox in 1:29:50 and Karen Ratcliffe in 1:51:23.

The Irwell Valley 20-Miler attracted seven members as spring marathon training for many started to get very serious.

First home was Marcus Chester in 2:44:33, followed by Gareth Doherty 2:50:04, Katy Thompson 3:00:42, Linda O’Byrne 3:09:47, Tim Taylor 3:12:44, Denise Hodgkinson 3:25:25 and Richard Blake 3:25:25.

Andy Duffy won the M55 prize at Roddlesworth Roller in 41:47.

John Hallett was Burnden’s other representative, finishing in 1:15:28.

Several members tested themselves in the 2Up Firefighters Duathlon around Rivington with teams of two having to keep pace with each other throughout.

Martyn Pollitt clocked the fastest time of members taking part, coming first V50 in a combined time of 2:22:23 with his team-mate.

Pollitt covered the first run over the 5.5k course in 28:56, then took 1:18:09 for the 37.2k bike section and did his second run in 31:08.

Liz McLellan and Isaline Pollitt finished first and second in the F40 group. McLellan’s time of 2:37:12 was achieved with runs of 30:23 and 31:49 either side of a 1:30:40 bike time. Her partner Pollitt’s time of 2:37:19 was made up of a 30:23 first run, 1:31:19 on the bike and 32:01 on the second run.

Julie Riddle and Jackie Spiby finished alongside each other in 3:43:23 and 3:43:24, respectively.

Both had a time of 40:44 for the first run. They stuck together throughout within a second of each other on the bike ride and second run, Riddle registering 2:09:08 and 45:08 while Spiby was given 2:09:09 and 45:07.

Diane Smith was third F50 in 4:40:35, clocking 57:12 on the first run, 2:44:47 on the bike and 50:13 for her second run.

Bill Kelly travelled to Anglesey a week earlier to compete in the island’s half marathon starting on the iconic Menai Bridge.

Kelly covered the course in cold and windy conditions in 3:02:23.
