ANDREW Crickmore was Horwich’s highest finisher in the Great Manchester 10k in 79th place out of a field of more than 30,000 that included winner Sir Mo Farah.

Rob Jackson’s 124th gave him sixth place in the V50 category while away from competing, the club supplied 12 marshals for the event

Elsewhere, it was the first in the series of the club’s three Junior Street races at Rivington and Matthew Flatters won the higher age-group race, one place ahead of Lucas Milliken.

Matthew and Lucas had finished second and third respectively the evening before in the 800m on the track at the Trafford AC Grand Prix Open.

Also at this event, Robert Seddon won his first 800m track race.

Other triumphs at the Junior Street race included several age-group wins for the girls – Eva Baldwin (u13), Emma Bradley (u11), Charlotte Vickers (u9) and Maddison Wilkinson (u7).

In the club’s senior Jubilee race it was Blackburn Harriers who took the first five places with Ben Costello leading them home.

Steve Williams was first Horwich runner and he also won the V60 category.

On the fells, Graham Schofield returned to the fray with a fine 11th place at Sedbergh where he also comfortably won the V60 category.

Julian Goudge, fresh from a top-10 finish at the Horwich Triathlon, took on the Windermere Marathon and came home second as he continues to compile a fine CV of race results.

The best senior fell race result this week came from James Kevan at the Slieve Donard race in County Antrim where he took eighth place running for his Irish club, Clonliffe Harriers as he builds towards the European Mountain Running Championships this summer.

Simon Pymm, after a successful 2017, made a low-key and welcome comeback to fell races, finishing a solid 12th at Glaramara.

At Malham, the junior fell squad saw a standout performance from Toby Middleton, who finished second in the u15s' race, just two seconds behind the winner.

Imogen Andreassen had the best performance for the girls, finishing sixth female at u13, beating the other six Horwich runners and 62 others.

Last week was the first Northern League track and field competition of the season and Horwich combined with Chorley to jointly host the event at UCLAN, Preston.

Horwich and Chorley finished second out of seven teams with the top performances from several new u17 athletes.

Niall Maloney ran a superb personal best in the 100m, while Isaac Parker and Nathan Hargreaves ran PBs in the 400m.

Last weekend was the Youth Development League event at Leigh where 20 Horwich athletes turned out and Sophie Walton broke the club record again with a time of 12.7secs in the 100m sprint.

The u15 girls were a close second in the 4x300m relay, while in the field events Sam Keenan and Alex Clifford won both javelin events and Aaron Isaacs got two second places in the shot and javelin.

Horwich finished fourth out of seven teams, only four points behind Chorley.

Altogether there were 39 PBs by Horwich athletes.
