BOLTON’S Over-60s side were getting the better of Bury at Elton Vale when the match was abandoned because of rain.
Bury batted first and Ann Truffas once again showed how bowing should be done, dismissing three batters first ball, and a further three on their second ball, leaving Bury with just three batters remaining and a score of 14.
Deb Pierce and Wendy Irvine managed to score 12 and 10 respectively, and with only six bad balls, that left Bury with a score of just 45 points.
Bury looked like they may be just as sharp as Bolton, dismissing six batters by the third bat, but the remaining five proved hard to dismiss, particularly Vicky Hill on 12, Tammy Rowley on 13 and Jo Mullard on 14 leaving Bolton with a score of 69.
At this point, however, the heavens opened and the game was abandoned.
In a ‘golden girls’ match between the two towns at Darcy Lever, Bolton batted first and, 45 minutes later, their innings ended on 253 points.
Sylvia Sutton scored 35, including two rounders, Kath Chapman managed six rounders and a score of 62, whilst June Duckworth was top scorer with five rounders and an incredible score of 68.
The crowd watched on with amazement as the girls hit the ball distances that even the most capable batter would be envious of.
Bury went in to bat facing an uphill battle but, despite four rounders, and top scores of 24 from Chris Yates and 21 by Helen Burns, managed just 109 points.
Following on, they were not going to give in without a fight and, thanks to a top score of 32 fromHilda Mole, scored 128.
However, a final total of 237 was just not enough to put Bolton in to bat again.
The Cup/Shield finals will be played over five consecutive Fridays, starting with the Horwich Shield at Walkden Cricket Club this Friday, July 29, when Section M teams Anderton XI and Lostock Roofing Ladies battle for the trophy.
