LEIGH coach Paul Rowley believes his high-flying Centurions’ deserve the highest accolades after their historic victory at Sheffield Eagles.

The 54-12 win set a new club record of 15 successive victories, maintaining their 100 per cent start to the season, and earned the Centurions Kingstone Press Championship Performance of the Week award.

Rowley paid a glowing personal tribute to his players but reckons their achievement should be recognised by the town and its people.

“There was a lot of attention on the game and a big focus from Sheffield to spoil that party,” he said.

“There was a bit of pressure on but the boys responded in best possible fashion. They were outstanding from start to finish: they were tough, skillful, and then walked away humble.

“For me, every billboard in Leigh should be plastered with this occasion. It’s 110 years of history and it’s absolutely huge.”

Liam Kay’s four-try performance in the Centurions win earned him the Kingstone Press Championship Player of the Week award.
