ROUNDERS: The first of the season’s interleague matches got off to a flying start last Friday when Bury took the honours in the Over-45s challenge at Little Lever Cricket Club.

Bolton, who looked striking in their new kit, proved more than a match for their Bury opponents with Carol Paisley impressive in the second innings.

Jayne Trevitt and Maureen Shepherd were Bolton’s top scorers in the first innings with 15 each, closely followed by Janet Grimes, who scored 10 as the home team posted a score of 76.

Unfortunately this was not enough to win the innings with Bury replying with a total of 112, with A Dexter (28) and L Walker (29) topping the scores.

Bolton batted much better in the second innings, in which Paisley, who was nominated as player’s player, scored a magnificent 32 – the highest individual score of the match – to take the innings total to 129 for an overall score of 205. Nevertheless, Bury went into their second innings confident of a victory, and achieved it thanks to excellent batting from B Brackley, V Fielding and J Dootson combined with eight rounders to win the match 248-205.

Second round ties in the cup matches take place this week with the first of the Sunday Cup second round ties on Sunday.

A race night is to be held for the league’s charity – Bolton Smiley Faces – at the Railway Club, Green Lane on Saturday, June 26.
