ROUNDERS: The often-used phrase “ones will do” was never more evident than at Bolton Cricket Club last Friday night when the juniors of Bolton and Bury treated a large crowd to a feast of rounders in the second of the interleague series.

Bury won the match 299-271 but both sides contributed to an outstanding evening’s sport in which 200 of the points scored came in singles.

The first innings turned into a marathon, lasting almost an hour and a half.

Bolton produced an impressive display of steady, safe batting, clocking up a magnificent 177.

Beth Hodgkiss top-scored with 35, supported by Shauna Farrell (21) and Nicola Mitchell-Yorke (25) in amassing a score that gave Bury a lot of work to do.

They responded superbly, however, reaching 197 in reply with L Watson and L Doughty scoring 65 between them.

The crowd appeared to be in for a long night when the second innings began but Bury fielded well and managed to dismiss three players after the second round of batting.

The remaining batters helped Bolton to a modest second innings score of 94, leaving Bury requiring just 75 to win.

But the home side also fielded well to make a game of it, dismissing Bury’s top three batters from the first innings for just 15 before the visitors rallied to score 102 for a 28-run victory.

Player’s player for Bolton was Mitchell-Yorke, who batted well and bowled magnificently.

The Intermediates interleague match is on Friday, at Darcy Lever CC. The Seniors match will also be held at Darcy Lever CC on June 25, not June 18, as indicated in the handbook.
