Tom powers to Oulton win

MOTOR SPORT: Nineteen-year-old Tom Bradshaw has stormed to victory at Oulton Park in his latest outing in the North West Formula Ford championship.

Bradshaw from Bolton has already notched two second-place finishes in the Formula Parlmer Audi Championship, but at the weekend he went one better in spectacular fashion.

He gave himself the best possible start when he qualified the Swift Formula Ford, run by the Medena Team, with sponsorship from Accident Exchange, in pole position.

He was passed into the first corner by Graham Carroll, and from then on the pair circulated yards apart at more than 100mph, drifting their cars through the corners for fun. On lap five, Bradshaw attacked and outbraked Carroll on one of the tight Oulton Park bends and took the lead.

They continued their duel until the last lap on which Carroll closed to within inches of Brashaw's car.

On the final corner, Carroll pulled out to try to pass Bradshaw, but he over-cooked it and spun out, hitting another car and leaving Bradshaw to take the chequered flag with hands raised in jubilation.

Two other Bolton drivers were also racing in the same category. David Gavin, who has been racing for 10 years in Formula Ford, came 10th and Neil Griffin, racing in a Formula Ford Van Diemen, in a different class, brought his car home in seventh place.
