WANDERERS (3-5-2)

ANDY LONERGAN .......7

Tricky conditions for keepers but Lonergan had already been solid before pulling a world class save out of his back pocket in the 96th minute.

MATT MILLS......7

Quite how he deflected Stevie May’s shot over the bar whilst lying on his back, even he doesn’t know. But defended with focus against a big fella in Nuhiu.

DAVID WHEATER .....7

Never lets anyone down and like Mills, coped with the aerial threat Wednesday offered very well indeed. This is the kind of game Wheater really suits.

DORIAN DERVITE......7

Last week’s poor show has been quickly consigned to the past. Not as demonstrative as his defensive partners but just so tidy and effective.

LIAM FEENEY.......7

Got unfairly criticised last weekend but hit back with a smart finish after just 70 seconds. Set piece delivery was again excellent, and tracked back well on the right.

NEIL DANNS ......7

The game never settled in midfield and what little football was played there happened at 100 miles an hour. Danns dug in and did his job, as usual.

JOSH VELA......8

Fans had been crying out for him to be pushed forward and this shows why. A few outstanding passes, one crucial challenge to set up the first goal. Impressive.

DARREN PRATLEY .....8

His fine finish aside, Pratley got absolutely everywhere for the Whites and was still running hard at the end. Playing by far his best football at the club right now.

TIM REAM.......7

Asked to venture forward more in this new formation than normal, the American took it in his stride. Always looks so comfortable on the ball.

EMILE HESKEY..... 8

Was he beaten in the air once all game? Anyone questioning if Heskey still has “it” should re-watch this game and see how important he can be to Wanderers.

CRAIG DAVIES..... 7

Worked hard off Heskey’s shoulder and never stopped hassling mistakes out of the Wednesday back line. Should have buried a second-half header, though.

Subs: Gudjohnsen 90 (for Davies) – Nearly made it three late on .....6

Not used: Bogdan, Moxey, Spearing, Trotter, Wilkinson, Walker.

STAR MAN – Darren Pratley

A few worthy contenders but the quality of Pratley’s finish for the second goal puts him just ahead of Vela, Heskey, Lonergan and Co.

The midfielder continues to bubble with confidence and we’re seeing a completely different side to his game now, long may it continue.

SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY

KEIREN WESTWOOD......8

KEIRAN LEE......6

GLENN LOOVENS .....7

TOM LEES.... 6

CLAUDE DIELNA .....5

LIAM PALMER.....7

JOSE SEMEDO.....6

STEVIE MAY......7

JACQUES MAGHOMA .....5

CHRIS MAGUIRE..... 7

ATDHE NUHIU......7

Subs: Hutchinson 69 (for Lee) 4, Helan 69 (for Maghoma) 6, Baker 78 (for Semedo) 6.

Not used: Kirkland, Buxton, Mattock, Lavery.

OWLS STAR MAN – Keiren Westwood

Stopped an avalanche as the sleet came down with a hat-trick of saves in the second half from Vela, Davies and Pratley. It’s no wonder the Owls keeper is being courted by some top clubs in the Premier League.

Referee: Graham Scott (Oxfordshire) ......5

Not helped by his assistant on the hugely-debatable offside call against May but had a scattergun approach to the fouls he was punishing.
