THOUSANDS of Whites fans are preparing to travel to Anfield on Saturday hoping to repeat the historic “white hot” Wanderers victory against Liverpool from 22 years ago.

Thousands of Wanderers supporters will head to Merseyside — including 60 coach loads setting off from the Macron — for what they hope could be the start of another famous FA Cup run.

In 1993, Bruce Rioch’s brave Whites outplayed cup holders Liverpool on their home turf to register a famous 2-0 victory.

The fourth round tie will see Neil Lennon’s Trotters kick off against the Premier League giants at 5.30pm and supporters are cautiously optimistic of once again causing an upset.

Bolton Councillor and long-serving supporter Cllr John Walsh was at Anfield on that famous night and will be travelling with the White Army.

He said: “I still remember how ecstatic I was at that game, every player played above themselves for the pride of the shirt and that is what we need to see again.

“I think that the way we are playing at the moment is set up for us to cause a shock and Neil Lennon has got the ability to make that happen.”

Expectant fans were also gathering at the Middlebrook today to pick up their Whites shirts ahead of the big game.

And Lucille Ross and Adam Cauchi from JD Sports, Middlebrook wore their Liverpool and Bolton shirts as they discussed which way the game would go.

Lifelong fan Nick Parton showed his anger at the run of results overseen by previous manager Dougie Freedman when he protested on the pitch after a match against Derby earlier in the season.

He said the new manager has given the club renewed belief, adding: “He is a very clever manager and he has got the whole place buzzing again, you can feel it on the terraces.

“If we can keep them quiet for the first 20 minutes then I think we have a chance.”

Mr Parton was also at Anfield for the “White Hot” victory and said being on the winning side was a “surreal” feeling that he would love to have again.

Tickets for Wanderers fans have sold out and Richard Buckle, of Tyrers Coaches, who will be escorting the travelling hoards to Anfield, said he expects about 4,000 fans to make the trip.

He added: “it is certainly the biggest operation we have been involved with for a few years and we are really excited to be involved.

“Myself and all the drivers are big Bolton fans and there are quite a few who think we can get a win.”
