WANDERERS have snatched the signature of Adam Le Fondre from under the noses of Huddersfield Town.

The Cardiff City striker - nicknamed Alfie - will join the Whites on loan next week after snubbing a move to the John Smith’s Stadium, citing family reasons.

Football League loan rules mean he will be unable to complete his move until January 30.

The delay is down to the fact Wanderers have already signed Kevin McNaughton and Joe Mason from Cardiff on long-term loans. Even though Mason’s deal was terminated last week, he remains registered until next Friday – which renders Le Fondre unavailable for the trip to his former club Rotherham United on Tuesday night. The club also have to wait for international clearance.

Le Fondre – a target for previous Bolton boss Dougie Freedman - boasts a fine scoring record with more than 150 career goals, and netted a hat-trick against Wanderers for Reading last season in their 7-1 hammering at the Madejski Stadium.

The Stockport-born front man has suffered since moving to Cardiff in the summer on a three-year deal, scoring just three times in 25 games.

Meanwhile, Wanderers will run the rule over former Poland Under-21 international Kamil Wilczek next week with a view to a £150,000 deal.

The 27-year-old can play either as a striker or an attacking midfielder and has scored nine times this season for Piast Gliwice, including a hat-trick against Legia Warsaw.

Wilczek will spend three days training at Euxton next week alongside Northern Irish striker Daniel Hughes, who is on trial from Warrenpoint United.

Wanderers are also weighing up whether to offer a deal to another trialist, Port Vale striker Alex Nimely.

The Liberia-born former Manchester City striker has worked with the Whites first team throughout this week but his club insist they want a fee if Neil Lennon is to make the move permanent.

“Alex is on trial there and they may make a bid for him,” said Vale chairman Norman Smurthwaite.

“If the trial is not successful, he would come back here. If it is successful then it will be a good piece of business.”

Nimely has made just one appearance at Vale Park since signing for the club in November.

Wanderers have also terminated the contract of striker Tom Youngs.

The 20-year-old made two substitute appearances for the Whites last season and has also been on loan at Oldham Athletic.
