NEIL Lennon praised his cup heroes at Anfield as they lived to fight another day against Liverpool.

A mixture of belligerent defending, stunning goalkeeping and good old fashioned graft ensured Wanderers will be in the hat for the fifth round draw on Monday evening.

But with a near 6,000-strong travelling support in phenomenal voice and the team showing this sort of attitude – who is to say what can happen at the Macron Stadium in the replay?

Lennon beamed with delight as his side kept the Reds at bay.

The Whites boss had changed his goalkeeper, brought Dean Moxey back for his first appearance in four months and paired 37-year-old Emile Heskey with 36-year-old Eidur Gudjohnsen up front – but got just the sort of wholehearted performance he was hoping for from his side.

“We’re still in the tie, and that’s the most important thing,” he said.

“I asked them at half time to make sure they came back into the dressing room still in the competition, win or replay, and I got everything I could have asked for.

“We are down to the bare bones. It’s not ideal to play Eidur and Emile away from home at Liverpool, and then we bring on a 19-year-old in Conor Wilkinson.

“Dean Moxey had cramp, Neil Danns had a stomach ache, and we were on our last legs but we saw it through. It was a momentous night.”

Bogdan was at his brilliant best, making key saves from Adam Lallana, Fabio Borini and Jordan Henderson as Liverpool turned the screw in the second half.

The Hungary international was backed up by a wonderful team display from front to back – and Wanderers could have won it too, with Gudjohnsen putting two decent chances over the bar late in the game, and Moxey whistling one first half volley just wide.

“I felt we could have passed it better in the first half, maybe broke a bit better, but Bogdan was fantastic – which you need your goalkeeper to be away from home, and I’m speaking from experience at Celtic with that in the Champions League,” Lennon said.

“I like Adam’s style. He’s got that calm demeanour you need on a night like this and he was excellent.

“The likes of Dervite, Ream, Danns, Josh Vela, Pratley – it was an outstanding team performance and we’ve got another crack at it.”
