THE defensive display I saw at the weekend was the best I’ve seen by a Wanderers team since I hung up my boots.

From front to back it was an exceptional job at Liverpool and the team will go into today’s game at Rotherham full of confidence.

We’ll need more of the same in South Yorkshire because they are a team fighting for their lives to stay in this division and every point will matter for them between now and the end of the season.

This game will be very different to Liverpool or even Sheffield Wednesday because there is a huge amount of pressure on the home side, who have not won a game so far this year.

When they win, it is usually down to taking the lead early. That means we need to match them up for endeavour from the first whistle to the last. We will need to be a little sharper up front. A couple of decent chances were wasted in the cup game and we will need to be a little more clinical.

But whenever you play a side who are threatened by relegation it’s important to put them under pressure, to ask questions. That means the team starts to panic and in this case the home crowd will also start to voice their concern. We have to capitalise on their poor form and make every opportunity count.

On the other hand this is Bolton’s third away game of the month, which is a tough ask. There should be no fear, of course, because they are more than capable of coming away from the New York Stadium with three points.

It will come down to whether Neil Lennon’s side can show that same aggression they did in their last two games. Every player needs to pick themselves up again and win their individual battles.

I was really impressed with how Adam Bogdan – aka Shaggy – played at Anfield, he made some fantastic saves. His kicking is getting better and his distribution from the back has improved tremendously.

We have momentum, we are starting to become more consistent. If we play the same as we did at Liverpool then I think it’s three points at Rotherham.
