NEIL Lennon believes a permanent deal for Crystal Palace midfielder Barry Bannan could be struck next summer.

The Scotland international was one of four new arrivals on transfer deadline day, coming in on a season-long loan as Chung-Yong Lee went the opposite way to Selhurst Park.

Bannan had been a target of previous Wanderers boss Dougie Freedman only for a loan deal to fall through in September.

But with first-team football unlikely at Palace and his contract up in the summer, Lennon spoke positively about the chances of signing him at the end of the season.

“It will depend how he goes, whether he settles, but there’s definitely a possibility,” he said. “He’s a player I like, and he’ll do a very good job at this level.”

Lennon also hinted a deal could be arranged for Saidy Janko, whose contract at Manchester United also expires in the summer.

“I haven’t asked the question yet,” he said. “He might be available but there would be some compensation.”

Janko signed after playing for United’s development squad on Monday night and had a tour round the training facilities and stadium yesterday.

The Swiss Under-19 international misses out for tonight’s cup tie against Liverpool but will go straight into the squad for this weekend’s trip to Derby County.

Lennon also signed Simeon Slavchev and Filip Twardzik yesterday, with the Janko deal going right down to the wire.

“It was a late night,” said the Whites boss. “Twelve o’clock I lay down on the sofa and then it was back up to get cracking again. It is what it is.

“We did a deal with Janko and Kellett at two minutes to 11. There was a bit of stress involved but I was happy with how we finished up.

“In terms of the objectives we wanted to do, we cut the wage bill right down.

"Phil (Gartside) is happy and he did a great job yesterday, it looked like he had his mojo back.

“We had a lot going on and he looked like he was enjoying himself.

“The big one was Chung-Yong Lee going to Palace, and we had to be patient with that because there was a lot of to-ing and fro-ing.

“These things predominantly go to the last day.

“We have young players who are hungry and those who are here to prove a point and that’s a good thing to have.

“Allied to that we’ve got Le Fondre in, who we think is an excellent acquisition, plus Rochinha, so it was a good window.”
