BEN AMOS 9

Simply stunning stuff from the on-loan keeper to make sure his team were still in the game. His reactions to tip Leon Clarke’s header on to the bar were incredible.

LIAM FEENEY 4

Feeney had a day to forget. Gave the ball away too often and didn’t do enough defensively. The wing-back role doesn’t suit him but he’s better than this.

MATT MILLS 6

Steady enough from Mills, who kept things simple with one eye on a terrible pitch. Made a couple of good interventions in the second half as Wigan piled on the pressure.

PADDY MCCARTHY 7

Again very impressive from the Irishman, although this was the kind of game he should thrive on with much of his business done in the air rather than on the ground.

TIM REAM 7

Ream got an unfortunate shove in the build up to the goal but was otherwise calm and composed, particularly in the first half. Finishing the season strong.

TOM WALKER 6

Hopefully his first professional goal will remain his own despite taking a horrendous deflection. Worked hard but was paying for it by the time he came off.

BARRY BANNAN 6

Bannan worked hard but was always up against it in a physical midfield full of relative giants. The Scot didn’t get time to play on his strengths on the ball.

LIAM TROTTER 5

Still doesn’t seem to be playing at full tilt, which is a shame given this was a big opportunity for him to shine in a derby. Lost a lot of possession in key areas.

ROCHINHA 6

Couldn’t get himself into the game other than an exciting but all-too-brief flurry around the half hour mark. Went very close to scoring his first senior goal.

EMILE HESKEY 7

Heskey only had one sniff of goal, a header, but his hold up play was exactly what his team needed. Didn’t give the ball away when the pressure was on.

ADAM LE FONDRE 4

Like Feeney, Le Fondre just had one of those days where nothing was happening for him. Had little service in the penalty box, which is where he’s at his best.

Subs: Vela 55 (for Rochinha) – Looked sturdy when he came on 7

Davies 68 (for Le Fondre) – Poor. Wasted possession and chances 4

Moxey 83 (for Walker) – Dug in as best he could 6
