THE Easter weekend saw a Premier League goal-of-the-season competition all of its own with several stunning strikes.

The likes of Charlie Adam for Stoke, Jermain Defoe at Sunderland, QPR's Bobby Zamora and Manchester United skipper Wayne Rooney all hit the net with superb efforts.

And wonder goals have often been on the menu for Whites fans over the years.

One of the most famous has to be Frank Worthington's celebrated strike against Ipswich Town in April, 1979 – a Division One clash at Burnden Park which Ian Greaves’ Whites actually lost 3-2.

But even non-Whites fans will recall that famous effort.

In more recent times, Wanderers supporters watched the likes of Youri Djorkaeff stun Charlton and Jay-Jay Okocha fire home a fabulous free kick against Aston Villa just over a decade ago.

Mark Davies has never been shy of trying his luck and he salvaged a point with a fine goal on home soil in November 2010 to seal a comeback from two goals down against Blackpool.

Just a few weeks earlier, though, one of the most memorable strikes in a Whites shirt came at Wolves' Molineux Stadium.

Swedish striker Johan Elmander had his critics at Wanderers but his goal in the Black Country was Bergkamp-esque.

Picking up a Stuart Holden pass inside the box with his back to goal and surrounded by four Wolves players, he showed lightning quick feet to shuffle the ball round to face goal, bamboozling his markers before side-footing home before anyone could react.

Now that would have rivalled any scored in the top-flight over Easter.
