COST-CUTTING measures continued at Wanderers this morning as 13 players were axed in a summer clear-out.
Here, we take a look at some of the players who will be seeking pastures new, what they did in their stay at the Macron Stadium, and where they might end up.
1. MATT MILLS
CAPTAINED the club through much of last season and was praised for his form prior to Christmas by Neil Lennon.
Injury and illness problems in the New Year affected his form but he still finished the season as one of a small handful of players who had played more than 40 games.
How he did - After a chequred first two years at Wanderers, Mills was one of the stand-out players in the first half of the campaign and the captaincy seemed to have secured his place. But despite remaining a first team regular he never really recovered from a red card at Nottingham Forest.
Mills made 94 appearances and scored seven goals for the club.
What next? Nottingham Forest have sniffed around but the smart money at the moment is on Fulham renewing their interest from January.
2. CRAIG DAVIES
COMABTIVE striker who became popular on the terraces in the last two-and-a-half years since his arrival from Barnsley.
Dougie Freedman's first cash signing at £300,000, the Wales international suffered a string of injury problems but still managed a decent return of seven goals this season.
How he did - When fit, Davies was a handful. More than half of his 58 appearances came off the bench and after spending some time on loan at Preston last season, he fought his way back in to become first-choice striker at the start of the campaign.
What next? Davies will have to sort out his hamstring problems but surely capable of playing at a Championship club.
3. ANDY LONERGAN
POPULAR keeper who battled with Adam Bogdan for the number one position for the first two years of his stay at Bolton but looked to have finally succeeded this season.
Played 32 games for the Whites and was described as the best keeper in the Champioonship just before Christmas.
How he did - Always seemed unlucky to lose his spot whenever he came in as cover for Bogdan. But when the Hungarian was injured earlier this season, Lonergan seized his chance. His form stuttered a little in the New Year but it seems the writing was on the wall for the 31-year-old when Neil Lennon reinstated Bogdan for the last six games in an effort to convince him to stay at the Macron. Finances will also have played a major part in his exit.
What next? In his prime for a goalkeeper. Wouldn't look out of place in a Premier League squad.
4. JERMAINE BECKFORD
BILLED as the answer to Dougie Freedman's goal-scoring problems, the former Leeds United man finished as top scorer for Wanderers last season.
Beckford failed to replicate his form this season, however, and found himself farmed out on loan after a brief run in Neil Lennon's side.
How he did - Beckford never looked a great fit for Wanderers and wasn't embraced by the fans in the same way he had been at Elland Road.
A return of nine goals last season was ample in a struggling side but the style favoured by Freedman never suited the poacher's game and though Lennon tried his best to kick-start the 31-year-old's fortunes - his massive wage was a telling factor in sending him out to Deepdale.
Life at Preston has been good for Beckford - and his 15 goals since November have helped the Lillywhites into the play-off final.
What next? If Preston get promoted, put your money on Simon Grayson funding a permanent move.
5. KEITH ANDREWS
BROUGHT in on a big contract by Owen Coyle, the Republic of Ireland midfielder's departure is not a shock at Wanderers.
His last game for the club was January 2013 at Crystal Palace, after which he was loaned out to Brighton, Watford and finally MK Dons.
How he did - Although Andrews provided some goals and leadership early in his Wanderers tenure, he never looked comfortable at the club. Freedman admitted the midfielder was moved on for financial reasons, and that has conrtinued to be the reason for his exile in the last two-and-a-half years.
What next? A coaching role at MK Dons beckons. It is not yet known whether the 34-year-old will play for the newly-promoted Championship club next season.
