JOHN McGinlay is looking forward to pulling on a Wanderers shirt again this weekend to help raise money for some worthwhile causes.

The Whites legend will join the likes of Tony Kelly, David Lee, Nicky Spooner, Greg Strong and Mark Winstanley in a special game against the Bolton Lads and Girls Club Old Boys tomorrow afternoon at the Eagley Sports Complex.

An auction is currently underway for a place alongside the Burnden Park favourites – and McGinlay is appealing for fans to come down and enjoy the day.

“As always, whenever the lads get together we look forward to it – but this year we’ve organised five or six games and we’re going to make sure that some local charities, things that are close to us, get some benefit from any money we raise,” he said.

One of the charities which will benefit is particularly close to McGinlay’s heart, The Gary Parkinson Trust.

Set up to help the former Wanderers star, who suffers from locked-in syndrome, the Trust continues to ensure he has the highest standard of care possible in the hope he can make a recovery.

“That’s what we all want,” McGinlay said. “And to be honest, just recently we haven’t done enough to keep it in the public eye. People tend to think he must have recovered but he hasn’t.

“His family do a superb job of looking after him but it’s down to his friends, former team-mates, and those who supported him to make sure that keeps going.”

The game will kick off at 4pm, with plenty of other activities on offer throughout the day.
