DEAN Moxey believes the pressure is on for Wanderers to start performing in pre-season.

The defender believes there is an onus on the players to start getting results before the big kick-off against his former club Derby County on August 8.

“It is disappointing – although it’s nice to get some more game time under our belts, we need to be winning games alongside getting our fitness up to standard,” said the 29-year-old who figured in Friday night’s 2-1 defeat at Morecambe.

“We’re disappointed to have come to Morecambe after a good 10 days out in Austria where we’ve worked really hard and come away empty-handed.

“At the end of the day, we’re still gelling as a team as there’s been a fair few changes during the summer. That isn’t an excuse though – we need to start performing and getting results too.”

Moxey has no complaints with the three new arrivals in Neil Lennon’s squad, and told the club he has been pleased with the way young defenders Hayden White and Quade Taylor have handled themselves in pre-season.

“The new boys are doing really well so far – Gary Madine’s come in and he’s taken to us straight away which is great, while Ben Amos who was with us last year has settled straight back in,” he told the club's website.

“The younger players have done really well too, especially at the back – obviously Quade Taylor played against Birmingham towards the back end of last season where he did really well on his league debut, while Hayden [White] has settled in well after being out on loan a bit so that’s always promising.

“For us though, we’re now looking towards Oldham on Tuesday where we’ll be going all out for victory.

“Everybody says that it’s important to get the game time under your belt, but getting wins is important too and we need to start picking them up.”
