NEIL Lennon has confirmed his interest in Italian defender Francesco Pisano – and hinted he could have another attacking signing in the pipeline too.

The Wanderers boss is in talks with 29-year-old former Italy Under-21 international Pisano, who has spent his entire professional career with Cagliari, and wants to use him as competition for Lawrie Wilson in the right-back slot.

But Lennon also revealed there could be another fresh face coming in soon, which could potentially add some pace and width to the Wanderers front line.

Manchester City prospect Brandon Barker has been strongly linked with a loan move to the Macron Stadium in recent weeks.

Speaking to The Bolton News, the manager brought fans up to date on his short-term transfer plans.

“There is interest [in Pisano] although I can’t say with any definition how far away we are from bringing him in,” he said.

“We’ve brought Lawrie Wilson in and I think he’ll be a good signing for us but I think we need some more competition in that area.

“We are working on it and we are working on another deal as well.”

After moving Rob Hall out on loan to MK Dons, Liam Feeney and Max Clayton remain the only wide options Lennon feels he can call upon at present.

“I think we need a little bit more zip going forward,” the manager said. “The game against Charlton changed when we brought Liam on and changed the shape a little bit, it gave us more up front, so that’s an area we’re definitely looking at now.

“I think genuine raw pace is something we lack in the squad, although we do have Max coming back in the next few weeks and he’s quick.”

Wanderers may have to balance the books by allowing someone out on loan – with the most likely candidates being midfielder Medo Kamara or young utility man Andy Kellett.

While it is understood Medo has been offered to a number of clubs on the continent, strong rumours have circulated that academy graduate Kellett could be in line for a move to Sheffield Wednesday.

Lennon denied that is the case but is open to the idea of loaning the 21-year-old out again, having allowed him to join Plymouth Argyle and Manchester United last season.

“We’ve had no enquires from any club thus far but it might be something we look at in the future,” he confirmed.

Meanwhile, reports that Hull City have moved to sign midfielder Josh Vela have been strongly denied by the club.

Ipswich Town have also been rumoured as suitors for the academy graduate but sources within the Macron insist there is no appetite to sell.
