WANDERERS will go into today’s home clash with Brighton boasting just one fit senior striker after attempts to land Charlton Athletic’s Igor Vetokele appeared to draw a blank last night.

Although discussions with the Angola international continued throughout yesterday a move was not sanctioned in time for Vetokele to face the Championship leaders at the Macron this afternoon.

Sources in South London claim the 23-year-old had reservations over moving to the North West on a three-month deal. There were also doubts cast against the striker’s levels of fitness after a recurring Achilles problem.

It means Lennon is likely to name Gary Madine from the start today hoping that the former Sheffield Wednesday man can break his Bolton duck.

Emile Heskey stands an outside chance of being involved after some good news on his minor hamstring strain – but is almost certain to start on the bench, at best.

It also remains to be seen whether Lennon will resume his pursuit of Vetokele next week, or move on to a different target.

Liam Feeney – currently Wanderers’ top scorer on two goals – hopes home advantage can help them bounce back from last weekend’s 4-1 defeat against Huddersfield Town.

“We’re looking forward to the game, especially with it being at home,” the winger told bwfc.co.uk. “We haven’t really found our form away from home yet but at home we can be pretty proud – we’ve been pretty solid.

“We’ve turned Macron Stadium into a fortress. It is important we keep our home record going for the fans and for the club, so it’s important that that is what we’re looking do.

“Last week was disappointing, especially after starting so well. We’ve had a good week’s training and we’re now looking to put things right.”
