DEAN Holdsworth has stepped down as manager of non-league Brentwood Town amidst heavy speculation he is heading a consortium looking to invest at Wanderers.

The former Whites striker quit his post at the Ryman Premier club after five months in charge but will remain as the club’s director of football.

The 47-year-old cited other business interests as the chief reason for leaving his role, telling the Brentwood Gazette.

“I've really enjoyed working with a great chairman and people at the club, the players have been superb.

“I still remain at the club in a role in which I can be involved, I didn't want to let them down due to other commitments.”

Holdsworth is working with Sport Shield Consultancy, who are known to have had high-level meetings at the Macron Stadium in the last few weeks to discuss investment in the club.
