WANDERERS under-18s coach David Lee praised his young players after they bounced back from a heavy defeat at Sheffield United to keep a clean sheet and draw against the Blades' city rivals.

The young Whites played out a goalless draw in their home U18 Professional Development League 2 clash with Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday to end a run of five successive defeats in league and cup.

After shipping six goals in South Yorkshire seven days earlier, It was a good response from Wanderers.

And they could have claimed all three points with Tyrell Palmer seeing a shot saved one-on-one and Enock Likoy-Elumba missing a header from six yards.

But overall, Lee was pleased with his side's efforts.

Lee told The Bolton News: "It was a competitive game in poor, windy conditions but a fair result overall.

"We created two good chances with Tyrell Palmer one-on-one before their goalkeeper prevented him from scoring from eight yards, before Elumba missed his header from a good cross.

"After last week, I was pleased with the players' reaction.

"They showed a great desire to keep a clean sheet, as well as creating a couple of good goalscoring chances.

"All week the players have taken on board the demands of the training sessions, to defend and keep clean sheets.

"It was a good response and another good learning curve."

Lee's side face South Yorkshire opposition again on Saturday, when they travel to Barnsley in the league.
