NEIL Lennon says his side should watch this evening’s FA Cup draw with a heavy heart after letting themselves down against Leeds United.

The Wanderers boss was left dismayed by his side’s first-half performance on Saturday as Soulemayne Doukara profited from an error by Ben Amos and then Toumani Diagouraga added a second goal just before half time.

Darren Pratley pulled one back with 10 minutes to go before Gary Madine hit the post but Lennon was in no doubt that his side had been second best on the day.

“We were too passive first half and that’s not the way we sent the team out to play,” Lennon said.

“The first goal is a mistake – Ben has got to save that – but our reaction wasn’t good.

“We had a real go in the last half-hour but you can’t go and give sides a two-goal lead and expect to go back into the game.

“The first 45 minutes were wasted and I’m looking at my senior players. We have got younger players in this team who need a bit of guidance but there wasn’t enough leadership. Again.

“We weren’t going to win the FA Cup but it would have been nice to be in the draw. I said to the players they’ll watch it with a lot of regrets because you let that one go.

“I am really disappointed because I thought the tie was there for us.

“We have got to try and pick them up and get ready Monday for Tuesday.

“But that is a game that they have definitely let skid away from them.”

Lennon, who could have Emile Heskey (calf) and Neil Danns (virus) back in contention for Tuesday night’s game against Wolves, confirmed that defender Prince-Desire Gouano is on the verge of leaving the club.

After the departure of Jose Manuel Casado on Friday, Lennon is praying that the final two days of the transfer window are kind.

“Prince is speaking to a club in Turkey and Jose has terminated his contract and I’m hoping that will be it – but we’ll have to see,” he added.
