DORIAN Dervite believes Wanderers can stay up even if they lose key players on transfer deadline day.

The defiant defender admits he is concerned administration could yet take the Whites’ future out of their hands in the coming weeks. But if the club can fend off a 12-point deduction, Dervite is confident the squad can scrabble together the necessary points to avoid slipping into League One.

“Even if we lose players I think we can stay up,” he told The Bolton News.

“I believe in us and we’re going to fight until the end anyway.

“We are not going to give up.

“It is a worry because to find out we would lose points would be even more difficult. We have to find out what happens on this side of the administration, focus on ourselves, the players, and what we do on the pitch.

“It is difficult in your head but we have to stick together. When we go on the pitch we don’t want to look bad so we try our best all the time.”

Wanderers go into the final day of the transfer window with three or four players being courted elsewhere.

Zach Clough, Darren Pratley, Dean Moxey and Josh Vela are all being eyed with Neil Lennon conceding it is “highly unlikely” he will go into tomorrow night’s game at Wolves with the same squad.

The uncertainty may have played a part in a drab FA Cup defeat against Leeds United, where resolve seemed in short supply for large swathes of the game.

Dervite reckons Rob Holding’s example shows the club has got inner strength and could potentially find answers from within if players move on.

“It can always happen at any club but at Bolton it’s a bit special,” he said.

“We will see how things go but hopefully we can keep people here because everyone is involved in the fight.

“If someone leaves, then I am sure a younger lad can step in and try to do as good a job as he can.

“He’s very talented and for someone so young he looks like he has got the experience already. I like to play alongside him.

“We will see and hopefully we can continue.”

Early mistakes cost Wanderers against Leeds, denting a run of two consecutive victories.

“We didn’t start well enough and it cost us two goals,” Dervite said. “After that it was difficult to go back into the dressing room after that performance.

“We knew we had to do better to get back into the game. We got a goal but unfortunately we pushed towards the end and it wasn’t enough.

“We won the last two games and we wanted to carry that good form on. I can say for myself and my team-mates I am very disappointed.”

Wanderers move on to tomorrow night’s game at Molineux knowing they could close the gap to safety to two points after Rotherham United’s heavy defeat against Charlton Athletic.

“All games are important but we need to get ourselves focused quickly on the league, so Wolves become the most important thing for us,” he said.

“It is a massive game, as they all will be, and we have to treat them like a cup final to get as many points as we can.”
